Nikole,

Glad to hear the three of you are home and having a good time. I don't have much advice about bf, but you two will find what will work. Your motherly instints will just kick in, they have already! I loved your comment about your brain only being half on right now...it is the magic of Thea. She will now amaze you everyday with the little things in life. And just so you know the husbands always have more free time than the mom, I don't know how they do it either, but they do. Thanks for sharing the pictures of your sweet, beautiful angel. I hope you recover soon and the pain goes away quickly! Thinking of you always ~

My c-section was not planned, but Jon's heartrate dropping at every contraction was enough for me to go with it. My pain lasted for about two weeks...I felt MUCH, MUCH better after I moved from the Vicodin to Advil. The pain meds were actually making it worse for me, I think. I bled for about 14 weeks. As of today I'm 8 months out. I had two layers of stitches, inteneral and external and they are STILL itchy to this day. Weird.

Health complications prevented me from BF, but I am happy with how things went. Still am. He's a keeper. :-)

Hi Nikole,
Congratulations again to you and John!!! Thea is so beautiful!

Re: a cesarean birth - I had a c-section after 27 hours of labor with Madison. It took about 3 weeks to start feeling better and stop taking the prescription pain meds. It was about 5 weeks before I started having moments where I didn't need to think before sitting up or rolling over. By 7 weeks I was pretty much back to my old self with the occaisional twinge or tingle around the incision point. Now it is but a vague memory and yet I am hoping when Alexis is born on the 27th the experience will be better the second time around since this will be a planned c-section.

As far as breast feeding Madison nursed every 2-2 1/2 hours for 30-45 minutes. She was growing with each visit to the doctor so we didn't really question the mechanics of it. Turns out around 4 weeks we discovered something was very wrong. My anatomy was not good for nursing and she wasn't able to get a good latch (which was why she nursed for so long at each feeding). While she was getting what she needed I got worse, to the point of having a split nipple with exposed milk ducts that leaked continously as well as a nipple yeast (thrush for Madison) and a bacterial infection in the wound all of which took about 6 weeks to heal. It is great you have engaged a lactation consultant already. I didn't until 5 weeks, I thought that determination and dedication alone would will out. I learned... After meeting with the lactation consultant things got better. I must say though that when we got the pumping element right it was a relief to have some time off to rest and heal while Dad had the "good stuff" in a bottle for feedings. With help and being flexible in what I thought was the right way to do it we made it to 11 months of breast feeding.

Hang in there! Whatever you are doing is what Thea needs. It is obvious that you and John are taking great care of her and love her very much. Take care of yourself too and everything will be great!
